*KARKONOSZE NATIONAL PARK The Karkonosze is an extraordinary and unique region in terms of nature and it demonstrates outstanding geological values. Therefore, the Karkonosze National Park and its buffer zone have the certificate of the "National Geopark", awarded by the Ministry of the Environment. The establishment of the National Geopark in the Karkonosze Mountains is a signal for all enthusiasts of interesting forms of the lithosphere as well as for tourists seeking natural attractions that the area of the Karkonosze National Park offers something for everyone. Following the footsteps of other European Geoparks, ours can also be an unusual destination of geotourist trips. The Karkonosze Mountains are very old. A variety of geological processes have been forming the mountains for more than a billion years. The Karkonosze National Park is famous for the richness of nature, but often geological and geomorphological values of the Karkonosze Mountains are not sufficiently appreciated. You can find here plenty of unique inanimate nature attractions, that will make the geological history of the Karkonosze Mountains speak for itself. Obtaining the status of the National Geopark emphasizes the natural beauty of the Karkonosze National Park and its buffer zone with particular reference to the abiotic elements of nature. The abiotic environment includes: geological substrate, topography and ancient and contemporary morphogenetic processes, climatic conditions, water and soil. They determine the development of the organic world. They also determine landscape values. The Karkonosze National Park is worth a visit just to see with your own eyes the wealth of nature in the region. Granting the Karkonosze National Park and its buffer zone the status of the National Geopark can contribute to the inclusion of the area in the Global Network of National Geoparks created by the UNESCO.
